Although this organization is based in Santa Barbara, they are very active in Carpinteria.

Heal the Ocean is a non-profit division of the Jean-Michel Cousteau Institute.  They are particularly concerned about the quality of the sewage effluent that flows into the Santa Barbara Channel.  Much of their time and resources go into testing the viruses that remain in the effluent before it reaches the ocean. 

Heal the Ocean tests El Estero and Carpinteria State Beach.  (The Bathing Beach is right infront of El Estero.)

This is a big job and they are committed to seeing that the water returning to the natural environment is as healthy and pure as when it was taken out.
